Vertex Hispanic Heritage Employee Spotlight: Julio Rodriguez

Julio Rodriguez
Crew Lead for LAIRCM

Vertex celebrates Hispanic Heritage by recognizing one of our own who contributes and inspires others in our company to achieve success every day. Julio Rodriguez is the Crew Lead for the Large Aircraft Infrared Counter Measure Team on our Aircraft Integration and Sustainment Division located in Crestview, Florida.

Born one of nine children in the Dominican Republic, Julio came to the U.S with his family when he was nine years old. He did not speak English and had two months to learn before starting third grade. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, Julio graduated from Prospect Heights High School and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force.

“I was fascinated with F-15’s during high school,” said Rodriguez. “After I graduated, I told a recruiter I wanted to work on F-15’s and travel the world.  He said, ‘no problem!’  My first assignment was in Arkansas working on C-130s.”

Luckily, Julio was able to trade his assignment and went to Langley, Virginia to begin his dream of working on F-15’s. After a 20-year career as an aircraft electrician and environmental systems technician, he retired from the Air Force and began working for Vertex.

Working at Vertex allows me to work with a great team and continue the work I love in support of my country,” said Rodriguez. “I’m honored to be a representative for the Hispanic Heritage. I served 20 years in the US Air Force and 21 years at Vertex. I am a Veteran. I am a proud Hispanic American.
